Join Our Club - The Colts Team
What?
- What - At Aylesbury Rugby Football Club, Colts Rugby is the transitional phase for players aged U17 and U18 (school years 12 and 13). To join the Colts team, you must be a boy and aged 16 or 17 at the start of the season (1st September).
- Purpose - To bridge the gap between junior age-grade rugby and senior adult rugby. We aim for player development, focusing on enhancing skills, fitness, and game understanding in a competitive yet supportive environment. Thus, we prepare young athletes physically and mentally for the demands of open-age adult rugby.
- Format - The format is full 15-a-side contact rugby with scrums and lineouts in a competitive Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire League.
- Pathway - At this stage a few lads may transition from the Northampton Saints Foundation Phase to the Development Phase whilst more will trial and be selected to play for Bucks County as well as our own Club senior teams (see graphic below for Saints pyramid).
- Summary - In essence, Colts Rugby is the final step in youth rugby, ensuring players are well-equipped, both physically and mentally, for the challenges and rewards of the adult game.
