The women in magenta and black travelled to Bishops Stortford this week to continue their league campaign.
Low squad numbers meant that some of the team had to play out of position but as the whistle sounded to start the game, confidence was high and everyone raring to go. From the off, it was clear that it was going to be a battle between two strong teams. Both sets of forwards were driving for the hard yards in the middle, creating space for the back lines to really show off their pace with some breathless duals between the wingers of both teams. It was try for try up to the break with the As women going in ahead thanks to Aisha converting from the tee.
The second half didn’t slow down with Bishops Storford’s offload game giving them the edge and opening up a lead. The two powerful packs were giving no ground at scrum time putting on a masterclass appreciated by the referee, coaches and spectators alike. A couple of well worked trys from the home team in the final few minutes sealed the win for them 37-22 before the final whistle sounded to cheers and applause from the appreciative crowd. A hard fought battle which saw the Aylesbury Women walk proud from the field after a strong performance.
Forward of the Match was Lena “the tackling machine” playing her first full match and shutting the door on anyone trying to get past (including Toni!).
Back of the Match was Toni, returning to the team and stepping into the breach as fly half and playing like she’d never left!
