Our women’s latest match report after a win at home!
A busy day of rugby for the Aylesbury women started with an Allianz Inner Warrior camp where the squad welcomed new players, swelling the ranks for future games.
As the whistle blew to start the match, the team were ready to show their watching new team mates what it meant to pull on the magenta and black and a fierce battle ensued with the strong Tabard side.
With both teams defending hard, the game was in the balance but it was Tabard that found the space to break free first. A long charging run was halted by a scrambling Aylesbury who soon realised they needed to hit back.
The forwards carried strong, making the hard yards before the back line flew into action, cutting great lines at pace to see winger Gabi cross the whitewash.
Sustained pressure in the Tabard half saw the penalties creep in, allowing second row Lucy to run her signature hard line from the quick tap to score.
The half time team chat seemed to do the trick as the Aylesbury ladies piled on the pressure through the second half but Tabard held strong despite being pinned in their half.
A great clearing kick from their back line was fielded by fullback Claire, channeling her inner Freddie Steward and setting up the back line for a fantastic passage of play. Debut winger Rhys was the beneficiary of the confident handling and lines from the backs, getting a hat trick in her first ever game!
A real team performance from the Aylesbury women who are going from strength to strength. All credit to Tabard who fought to the very end, making the Aylesbury ladies work for every inch of ground.
Forward of the Match: Lucy for never taking her foot off the gas and being a figurehead player.Back of the Match: Rhys for scoring more trys than she’s attended training sessions (or pretty close to it!).
