Aylesbury RFC

27 - 31

(HT 15-17)

Cambridge RUFC

With Aylesbury undefeated at home and Cambridge unbeaten, this promised to be the game of the season and did not disappoint! It was played at a ferocious pace and level of physicality worthy of the winning records at stake and it was the visitors that struck first, breaking the line, showing electric pace to score.

The As women kept up sustained pressure on Cambridge, marching up the pitch and being denied over the line several times due to excellent defensive efforts getting under the ball. The pressure paid off though with well worked tries keeping the game neck and neck at HT with the score 15-17.

The second half showed no signs of slowing down with the Aylesbury pack dominating the contact and the Cambridge back line showing real flair, with trys being scored in a fantastic showcase of Women’s rugby. The physical battle took its toll on Cambridge who were ahead by just 4 points going into the final few minutes with Aylesbury driving relentlessly toward the line.

In a Herculean effort with battered bodies, the home pack made one last strike play at the line and the whole of Ostlers Field waited with baited breath as the whistle blew but to the dismay of the home crowd it was ruled held up again seeing Cambridge secure their victory 27-31.

A massive shout out to the As try scorers: No 8 Charlotte (2), flanker Lena (2) and second row Becca.

Forward of the match went to second row Becca, scoring her first try and putting in a performance that belied the short time she has played rugby…a real powerhouse!

Back of the match went to Amy…she stepped up to fill the void in the centre position and the pocket rocket annihilated anyone who dared set foot in her channel!

The women in magenta and black have a short rest and valuable training time before the final league game of the season, looking to finish on a high on the road at Datchworth.
