ATL U16 Girls had their second league match of the season on Sunday against a strong Reading Abbey and Henley cluster team.
With several strong players away due to half-term, we knew it would be a tough match and we would need every player to work hard and do their job. They did that and more.
With a number of people away for half-term, the flexibility of the squad was tested with a number of players playing out of position. A special shout out to Maiya who put in a hell of a shift in her first match at Prop.
We were very decisive in attack, making lots of breaks with support runners working hard to provide continuous go forward. Whilst our attack was very good, it was our defensive work where we really shined against a very good opposition. We had long periods where we did not have the ball and we soaked up lots of pressure and held strong. Everyone put in tackles, hit rucks and worked hard to get back into position.
We scored 8 tries throughout the match. Bella P grabbed an impressive hat-trick through some great hard running lines and using her strength and determination to get over the line. Hattie C got her first U16s try with a wonderful first half try. Gabby B showed her power when she crashed over for a second half try. Hattie B scored one of her typical scrum-half darts from the back of a ruck. Charlie W scored after a spotting a gap during a lengthy spell of pressure near Reading abbey & Henley’s try line. Ava B scored a great try, finishing off an impressive team move. Charlie W was on kicking duties for the first half, slotting over two conversions with Clara M knocking over three conversions in the second half.
I could write paragraphs about each and every player but I will just say that they should all be super proud as they all put in a hell of shift. I do want to say a special well done to Connie who played her first match today after only a couple of weeks of playing and did a cracking job.
