Aylesbury RFC

48 - 17

(HT 0-0)

Ampthill & District RFC

With confidence high after last weeks win, Aylesbury welcomed old friends Ampthill to Ostlers Field.

The home team quickly found their attacking structure and put the visitors under pressure but the early game jitters reappeared and little errors kept the score board at zero despite being camped in the 22. Wing and general icon Gabi soon settled everyone’s nerves with repeated breaks eventually seeing her crash over for the first score. She soon crossed the whitewash again but in a great defensive scramble, was bundled over the dead ball line before she could ground the ball. Gabi wasn’t done though and soon earned a penalty try after repeated infringements from the defenders trying to stop her onslaught and then she crossed to score again!

With the flow returning and backs and forwards combining well, it was soon the packs turn to get on the board. Thumping runs around the breakdown saw great field position enabling quick thinking from flanker Shelley, who picked the ball from the base of the ruck and crashed over for the score. Second row Lucy added to the total in a fabulous game from her seeing the famous “Lucy Line” working in its full glory.

The second half saw reinforcements come into play from Ampthill and the game really opened up but the Aylesbury women met the challenge head on with winger Rhys getting on the end of some slick passing and flying away to score. Leila crossed the line numerous times in a powerful display but the defence held strong, with 2 attempts being judged to be held up. This only seemed to ignite the already energetic flanker who ended up with 2 trys to her name by the final whistle. Ampthill never took their foot off the gas and scored their third try at the whistle leaving the final score 48-17 with the extra points from the tee from Claire and none other than Gabi!

Forward of the Match went to the legend Lucy for relentless carrying of the ball, always breaking the gain line.

Back of the Match went to Gabi for a performance that was memorable for so many reasons…she even managed the unthinkable double of POTM and being awarded The Helmet!

The women in magenta and black now go into a rest week still undefeated at home during this league campaign.
