The much anticipated clash between the Aylesbury and Cambridge ladies lived up to all expectations with a fierce contest from start to finish.
The early pressure came from Aylesbury, putting patient phases together and working their way up the field before sloppy handling out wide was pounced on by the Cambridge backs and run in for an early lead. It was end to end play from that point with both teams powering up and down the pitch for scores seeing the half time break at 24-12.
The second half promised more of the same and delivered for the appreciative crowd with every big hit and strong carry getting a roar of approval. Both teams were embattled in a war up front, using their powerful forwards to create space for skilful back lines. Equally, both teams were aggressive in defence making this a game where mistakes cost points. Cambridge were able to capitalise on Aylesbury mistakes in open play to push the score at the final whistle to 32-17 before the mutual respect between two sets of warriors was evident.
The ladies in magenta and black leave with their heads high, giving a tough opposition no ground and disrupting the game plan of a well drilled and skilful team. With incredible performances all round, the choice was hard for the POTM honours and special mentions have to go to Emily, Leila and Darcey.
Forward of the match eventually went to Aisha who never, ever takes a backwards step and is a real figurehead to the team.
Back of the Match went to Eve for an outstanding performance, carrying hard in attack and leading the defensive line with tackle after tackle.
Next week sees a well earned rest after back to back fixtures before a return to Ostlers Field to put on a show for the home crowd.
