Staines RFC

12 - 20

(HT 0-0)

Aylesbury RFC

The league season got off to a strong start with the As ladies travelling to face Staines and coming away with the win.

From the off, it was obvious that both sides had been training hard in preseason with powerful runs and huge collisions in defence seeing neither side gain much of an edge. The deadlock was broken by some superb link play in the centres. Jo found the edge of the defensive line and timed her pass to perfection to release Amy who jinked her way past the full back to open the seasons scoring.

Not to be outdone, the forwards worked a bit of their handling magic and soon saw flanker Lucy S go flying in on her debut. Staines responded well and were soon on the front foot, finding space out wide before scoring under the posts and adding the extras.

With renewed vigour and a bit of momentum, the pack executed their red zone play and it would have taken every opponent in the league to stop Marcia once she set her sights on the line! Staines kept piling on the pressure, getting held up over the line by brilliant work from Captain Johanna before they worked the ball wide to score.

The game became a real battle up front, huge hits piling in and injuries mounting before the women in magenta and black sealed the victory. After Lucy S made a break and crossed the line only to be held up by a phenomenal Staines defensive effort, second row Becca found the space to get over, dotting the ball down for a final score of 12-20.

FOTM went to Lucy S (who also managed the double, getting “the pants” too!).

BOTM went to Amy.

The women will be back home this weekend at Ostlers Field ready for ARFC to celebrate the Women’s and Girls teams with a full day of rugby from u12 - adult.
