A fantastic game of rugby played by both sides saw Aylesbury Women come away with the win in their first home league match of the season.
It was clear from the outset that the teams were evenly matched and wanting to play fluid rugby with both backlines running hard behind the forwards carrying at the line.
Aylesbury got onto the board first with Lucy S starting and finishing a great period of play linking the forwards and backs. The strength and quick feet of Emily soon saw a second score added before the Ealing Women worked some great ball through the back line to get on the board.
The Aylesbury women had found their flow and were soon marching back up the pitch with the forwards carrying hard at the line and the back line making great ground. It was this flow that saw hooker Marcia offload a basketball pass over the last defender to let fly half Amy cross the line.
The second half saw Lucy add to her tally before Emily, not wanting to outdone added her second too! Ealing were hard after their restart which unfortunately for them found Lucy waiting and the Killer Kiwi was unstoppable carrying the ball through the entire Ealing team who tried in vain to bring her down. Lucy sealed her hat trick in style!
Ealing were by no means done and as the Aylesbury ladies were starting to tire, found a second wind and the next passage of play was all deep in the Aylesbury half until fullback Issy set her sights on the line and ran the best part of 90m to go in under the posts! The Ealing Women were still not ready to take their foot off the gas though and a quick tap penalty caught the home team napping for a try in the corner before they came in wave after wave to finish the game with a converted score under the posts.
Huge thanks to Ealing for a great match, a real showcase of Women’s Rugby
Forward of the Match was (obviously) Lucy S.
Back of the Match was Lowenna who definitely ate her weetabix before the match, putting bone crunching tackles in and running at the speed of a thousand gazelles in attack
