The U14’s started their season with a well fought win over a much bigger Camelot side. The home side dominated in the first quarter in terms of territory and possession but excellent defence by Aylesbury kept the scoreboard at 0-0. Aylesbury then turned the tide, putting pressure onto the home side and making the gain line both in the tight and out wide. One move in particular spread the ball quickly to the left wing where Zac Sherman made excellent ground. Pressure soon turned into points with good work in the tight by the forwards allowing Sammy Brine to pick and dive over for the first try. The teams very first conversion was then slotted by the captain of the day, Ben Watson.
Aylesbury continued to play cohesive rugby into the second half, looking to spread the ball wide whenever possible and an excellent break by Ben Watson saw him pulled down a metre from the line. Aylesbury were now making good metres over the gain-line consistently and were rewarded by a second try out wide by Xavier Harris. Evan Mason attempted the conversion kick from a difficult angle and was unlucky to hit the post and see it drop just the wrong side of the crossbar. In the final five minutes Camelot were able to gain a foothold in the Aylesbury 22 and scored a well deserved try with the final play.
All 23 players were in for a shout for POM, notable names being Evan Mason for his control of the game at 10 and Josh Williams for his work at the breakdown. However, it was deservedly awarded to Ben Watson.
Final score: Camelot 7 - 12 Aylesbury
